Our loyal members, facility users, together with grant funding, sponsorships, fundraising, and donations we are able to keep our facility running.

Operation Happy Birthday

2023 - 2024 | $9,900

This year saw the Huon Valley PCYC host 33 fun filled birthday parties for local children. Thanks to the support of the TasNetworks Community Grants Program we were able to provide no-cost, fully catered, Fun Factory parties to Huon Valley families facing vulnerable circumstances. Beyond brightening the lives of vulnerable young children and their families, this project has supported these children with social inclusion and introduced them to the Huon Valley PCYC as a safe and fun space where they will be welcomed and supported. Thank you TasNetworks for helping local children to celebrate their birthdays!

Parents Club

2024 - 2025 | $20,748

Our new weekly Parents Club supports parents with young children in our community by providing a safe and welcoming space where meaningful connections can be made. The program is free and includes morning tea, Fun Factory entry and engaging activities for children. The program is designed to foster social connection and belonging for local parents and combat social isolation. Parent’s Club will be running during school terms until the end of term 1 2025. Coffee For A Cause

2024 | $5,000

Our fantastic new coffee machine has been provided with funding received through the Hobart Airport Community Grants program. This machine will enable us to provide practical work experience and skills development to young people in the Huon Valley while every coffee purchased will raise funds for our existing and future youth support programs. Thank you, Hobart Airport, for supporting youth in the Huon Valley!

Community Cues

2024 | $10,000

Our amazing new custom built slate based pool table has been provided to give community members an alternative place to get together to play table games, away from the temptation of gambling. The project also looks to support community member’s social capital by encouraging meaningful community connections and friendships and encouraging quality family time. Thank you, Tasmanian Government, for supporting the Huon Valley community!

Play The Old School Way

2024 | $100,265

The Huon Valley PCYC will soon be introducing a new electronic games arcade to the facility with arrange of new and refurbished token operated games. The games have all been carefully selected to encourage friendly competition, the building of meaningful connections and friendships and quality family time.  Our new arcade is designed to support our new table sports by offering our community an alternative game-based recreation option to traditional gambling-based games such as Pokies, cassino games and on-line gambling games. Community Cafe

2024 | $10,000

This project, coming soon, will transform the Huon Valley PCYC Kiosk into a fully functioning Community Café. The Community Café is designed to support young people aged 12-18 in the Huon Valley who have become disengaged or are at risk of becoming disengaged from their community, education, training or employment, to gain practical work experience. While supporting vulnerable youth, the project also promotes community connection and renewal by providing a space where community members can get together to make meaningful connections. Kids In The Kitchen

2024 - 2025 | $2,907

​Kids in the Kitchen is a free cooking program for local children aged 8-12 years during the school holidays. The program is a collaboration with Eat Well Tasmania and aims to encourage healthy eating choices, and focuses on reducing waste, using local seasonal produce, and encouraging social connection through enjoying a shared meal. Thank you, Community Bank Huon Valley, for supporting kids in our community!

Youth Drop-In Centre

2023 - 2024 | part of $67,000

Our Monday Youth Drop-in Centre provides a safe space and place for local youth to gather after school, enjoy a free feed and free access to activities and games. The Youth Drop-in-Centre aims to support our most vulnerable, disadvantaged, disengaged, and at-risk young people by providing mentoring support, mental health referrals, and food to take home.

Fun Factory Fundraiser

We have purchased a second-hand playground indoor playground and are raising funds to have it installed. This project aims to provide a low-to-no cost recreation option for our community members, many of whom are from rural and remote areas and low-income families. We want to create a space for parents with young children to gather, where they can make meaningful connections and get support. In addition, we seek to start the early intervention process for at risk youth, by encouraging children to engage with and feel safe at the PCYC from a young age. 

Youth Week - Shout Out Loud

2024 | $2,000

Shout Out Loud was a fun filled event and a fantastic success celebrating Youth Week 2024. The event was a collaboration between the Huon Valley PCYC and the Huon Valley Council and was coordinated by a committee of local youth. Shout Out Loud was an afternoon of fun, food, and competitions celebrating the contributions of young people in our community. Thank you, Tasmanian Government, for supporting youth in the Huon Valley.

Neighbours Everyday - Open Day

2024 | $1,250

The Huon Valley PCYC hosted a successful Open Day to celebrate Neighbours Every Day 2024. The event introduced community members to the supports, programs, and activities available in the Huon Valley to maintain social connections and support health and wellbeing.  Community members were invited to come along, meet new people, try activities, discover programs, supports, ways to connect, and enjoy a free BBQ lunch. Our Activities Coordinators hosted games, sports, and classes, and our Fun Factory was open for young children to play and connect. Thank you, Tasmanian Government, for supporting the Huon Valley community!

Operation Resilience

2024 | $5,000

In 2024, the Huon Valley PCYC was able to introduce the Operation Resilience Program for the first time with 22 free sessions offered to local Primary and High Schools. Operation Resilience is an obstacle course-based program for young people, that encourages physical activity and supports skills development in leadership, teamwork, cooperation and effective communication. Inclusivity For All - New Bathrooms

2025 | $217,887

The Huon Valley PCYC’s project “Inclusivity and Access for all” aims to overhaul our current Toilet, Shower and Change facilities to increase privacy, functionality, and access for users. The project objective is to enhance privacy, access, and functionality of these facilities.

This project is designed to better support the local community and disadvantaged demographics by providing more private and functional facilities. Thank you, Tasmanian Government, for supporting the Huon Valley community!

Reuben Oates Mural

2024 | $9,900

The Huon Valley PCYC have engaged local indigenous artist Rueben Oates to complete a mural on the front entrance of the building. This project is designed to support community connection and reinvigorate the Huon Valley PCYC as an integral community support centre, where community members can make meaningful connections and seek health and wellbeing support. New Hoops Project

2025 | $43,045

The Huon Valley PCYC New Hoops project aims to replace the current defective and substandard basketball hoops with new functional, wall mounted basketball hoops. The project was identified to increase, improve or provide new opportunities to participate in sports and active recreation in the Huon Valley. The primary objective of the project is to remove barriers to participation by improving the functionality and safety of the basketball hoops to meet the needs of the Huon Valley community. At Huon Valley Police and Community Youth Club we prioritise community support. It is our goal to develop and implement a range of freely available, engaging and inclusive community programs to support the social, physical & mental wellbeing of the Huon Valley community. Our dedicated team is committed to identifying & responding to community needs, and supporting & engaging the Huon Valley’s most vulnerable, disadvantaged, disengaged, and at-risk community members. 
 
Our Community Support Programs look to increase inclusivity and seek to enhance the lives of vulnerable & disadvantaged community members by supporting:
 
  • Social, mental & physical health
  • Diversity & inclusivity
  • Capacity building
  • Connection & engagement to community
 
Our Youth & Early Intervention Programs support our local children and young people to live happy, healthy and hopeful lives. These programs look reduce engagement with the justice system and look to support:
 
  • the mental and physical health of young people 
  • retention in education 
  • future employment and careers opportunities 
  • life skills and independence 
  • resilience and confidence
